The CIT Conference will have many wonderful educational opportunities. So, too, will being in Puerto Rico. Our conference committee is working closing with E & R Transportation Corp. to develop a list of tours that you can take when you are not in an educational session. Check out some of the options on their web site. (This includes being picked up from the airport.)

E & R Transportation Corp. will provide opportunities such as to:

  • Tour Bioluminescent Bay in kayaks.
  • Tour the historic city of Old San Juan.
  • Tour the Bacardi Rum Factory.
  • Tour the Rain Forest.

Check out their web site for details. (There is a link at the bottom of the page for a Registration Form which allows you to sign up.) You can also email E&R Transportation Corporation directly with questions.

Hello. The CIT conference in Puerto Rico is quickly approaching and the excitement is building.

I want to let you know about some of the wonderful opportunities with tours that will be available. I'll give you some brief things to think about.

First, you can visit the rain forest, which is really a cool opportunity. I had the chance to go with the Board to see this. There are beautiful flowers and lovely water falls. Not ones like at Niagara Falls, but ones that are smaller and people actually are able to climb up to the water. The natural environment that you can see at the rain forest, as well as the animals, like frogs and birds, reallly make it worth the trip. And it is not very far to go. There is also a guide who will provide interesting information along the way, and interpreters will be provide so Deaf people can get all the information, too. It's worth it.

Another option is with the rum. Actually, a trip to visit the Bacardi's Rum factory. You can see the assembly plant and how the rum is processed and bottled. They also have a museum and guides to explain, and an interpreter will be there, too.

You might think that would be a long trip to get there, but it is a short trip and worth it. I haven't been there yet, but I will be joining a tour to go for sure. I'm very curious to see how it all happens.

Another tour is to Historic Old San Juan. Many people don't think history is that interesting, but it is really important to your life. The tour will explain about why certain buildings are where they are and you get to go by the Deaf school, too. So, that was nice to see as well.

The reason I am explaining all this about tours is that they need to have people sign up so they can arrange for interpreting services. If they don't hear from people, they might think that they don't need to get interpreters. So, don't just sit there and not do anything. Take action and let them know if you want to go on a tour.

You can check this out on our website at: www.cit-asl.org then follow the links for Conference and Tours. You can send them an e-mail letting them know what you are interested in.

I hope to see you this October in Puerto Rico. Come and join us. You'll enjoy yourself, and learn too. It's not all fun and games, but it will be a great balance of learning, sharing, collaboration, and fun. So, please join with us.

I forgot one thing that I should add. You have the chance to go in Fajardo Kayaks and it happens during the night. There is something extra special to see there. I didn't actually have a chance to do this. When I was there in February for Board meetings, I sprained my ankle and blew my chance to do this. You should definitely join in on one of these kayaking tours. It's a great chance to have fun, so I hope you'll come along. Thanks.
